How to Take an iPhone Screenshot
Many reasons exist to capture a screenshot of what is displaying on your iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch or Apple Watch display at a given moment in time. The reasons range from wanting to share what you see with a friend, to proving you beat the top level in a game, or providing a screenshot to a support team for an app bug report. Taking an iPhone screenshot is fast and easy. Here’s how.
How to Take a Screenshot of Your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch
To take an iPhone screenshot of what is currently showing in your iPhone display, press and release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. The process is identical on iPad and iPod Touch. See the images below for the locations of these buttons:
The position of the Sleep/Wake button relative to previous iPhones changed with the release of iPhone 6/Plus. It is now positioned on the right side of the iPhone 6/Plus device (as you are looking at the display) instead of at the top.
aA flash of the screen lets you know you took the iPhone screenshot. The screenshot is automatically added to Photos on your device.
Once you take the screenshot, you may select to Message or Mail it to friends, family or a technical support team. Just click the Share icon in the toolbar area below the screen shot.
How to Take a Screenshot of Your Apple Watch
The screenshot functionality also works with Apple Watch. There is still a need to depress two buttons, just as with taking an iPhone screenshot. However, the button naming convention is unique to the Apple Watch. To take an Apple Watch screenshot, follow these steps.
1. Navigate to the screen you want to capture in a screenshot
2. Press and hold the Digital Crown
3. Next, press and release the Side Button while holding the Digital Crown
4. Finally, release the Digital Crown
The Apple Watch screen will flash to let you know you took the screenshot. Since Apple Watch pairs with your iPhone, the screenshot is automatically added to Photos on your iPhone. It also means that you can share the screenshot from the Photos app on either device.
